We may have wanted to configure sending mail from our forum phpBB3 via SMTP, and it is also possible that your SMTP server is that of gmail. If all this is so, it is also possible that you've gone to the Google Help for answers and have found that what they put on the page does not work.
The main problem is that the forum is configured not let you choose the type of security (SSL, TLS, etc..) And what most people try to put the principle is:
Use SMTP for sending mail: Yes
SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Authentication Method: PLAIN
SMTP user tudireccion@gmail.com or tudireccion@tudominio.com (if you use Google Apps)
SMTP password: Your Password
Apparently, everything is fine, but there is something wrong: the server.
As I said before, we can not choose the type of security or anything, so I'll have to add us directly, leaving the setting as follows:
Use SMTP for sending mail: Yes
SMTP server: tls :/ / smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Authentication Method: PLAIN
SMTP user tudireccion@gmail.com or tudireccion@tudominio.com (if you use Google Apps)
SMTP password: Your Password
With this, we have it properly configured and the server and can send messages correctly ![]()

I know that this topic is old but I'm having problems with this. I have cofigurado sending mails as explained but I still see the error messages. Now users can no longer recover the password even! Before I had no problems with this, and was configured this way. I appreciate the help I can give ...
